FAQ
"Twenty Questions"
I have had some negative experiences at the dentist and I am apprehensive about having any dental work done. What are my options?
Our best advice is to come in and talk to us about your concerns. We can share all the information you need to know as well as answer your questions and concerns. Once you know what to expect and have trust in the process, you will be able to proceed. We are unconditionally committed to your comfort and we will not continue treatment if you feel any discomfort. We will make absolutely sure you experience no pain.
I am concerened about the cost of my dental care. Do you offer payment plans?
Yes! We offer CareCredit interest free financing for our patients.
If I need care, will I be presented several options?
It has been our experience that there is usually more than one option--but usually only one best option. You will be presented with the very best option that dentistry has available--the same care we would want for ourselves or our families. If there are any other feasible options, you will be given those, along with the advantages and disadvantages of all the options.
Why are some services referred to specialists?
Our patients are like family and we want the very best care available for all them (just as we would for our families). If that 'best care' is in a specialists office for that particular service, then that is where we want our patients to be treated.
When do children need to be seen for a check up?
The ADA recommends that children be seen around age one. With a one-year-old, we do not attempt to do the full cleaning with x-rays. It is possible to check to see that the teeth are well formed and check for "Baby Bottle Decay."
What toothpaste should I use?
Use fluoridated toothpaste with the ADA Seal of Acceptance. This assures that it meets standards of safety and effectiveness. It also means that the advertising claims are reviewed for accuracy. There are special ingredients in some toothpastes that help reduce sensitivity, reduce tartar, or help the gums. Ask if you think you need these pastes. Children should only use an amount equal to the size of a pea.
Is Wichita water fluoridated?
No! The natural fluoride level of about 0.36 ppm is not sufficient to give the full protection your child deserves. Children drinking Wichita water should have supplemental fluoride prescribed from age 3 to 16. Fluoridation has been practiced in America and Kansas for over 50 years. A lifetime of protection costs about the same as tablets for one year. Taxpayers pay for the excessive decay through Medicaid taxes, dental bills and insurance premiums. Private funds are available to fluoridate. Almost all major cities are fluoridated.
This low commitment to public health reinforces a very negative stereotype of Wichita.
How do I get a copy of my dental records?
You can request a copy of records directly from your previous dentist or we will be happy to request them for you.
Is tooth whitening available?
Yes, whitening is safe, effective, inexpensive and permanent. If you've always wanted to do it, do it now!
Where can I get more information?
The ADA has a very informative web site. They can be located at www.ada.org . The Kansas Dental Association web site is www.ksdental.org.
